Newborn photos

Puppies were born November 11th. We have a total of 4 Girls & 3 Boys. Momma and babies are doing great! All of our puppies are given Nuture Mate after birth which is a colostrum supplement to help boost their immune system. Vega's health is just as important, so we have her on Oxy Momma Post-Natal Vitamins, Purina Pro Plan Sport & Puppy Kibble, Puppy Wet Food, Probiotics, Bone Broth, Salmon Oil, & Oral Cal Plus (help keep her calcium levels adequate), and Foster Care Milk Replacement Powder (this can be given to nursing puppies & lactating moms). We do not take any short cuts when it comes to raising puppies.

2 Weeks Old <3

The little 7 Thanksgiving nuggets are thriving and growing at an exceptional rate! Momma Bird is recovering beautifully and is so happy to be a momma. The puppies are in what we call the Neonatal Period (0-14 days old). We follow Puppy Culture Protocols and begin ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation). This involves touching and stroking each puppy as well as giving plenty of individual cuddles. As We approach the 1-2 week mark, we begin clipping each puppy's nails as we don't want mom to be uncomfortable at any point in time. Those little nails can become razor blades quickly on her belly. ENS exercises only done once a day as keeping mom and babies stress low is vital. This photoshoot was NOT easy as they did not want to sit still for photos. They have discovered their legs and voices and were adamant about getting back to momma.

Here we are at week two and they're starting to become true "little dogs". We're in the Transitional Period (14-21 days old). Their eyes are opening, wobbling around, and they have found their voices. Little growls, howls, and barking! This week's photoshoot is very limited on pictures. Unfortunately, my camera couldn't get clear shots without the flash being on and I am not willing to constantly flash the camera for pictures. As their eyes are opening, they are very sensitive to light, and I also don't want to scare them with an abrupt flash. They're also starting to poop and pee on their own. Our whelping box is quite large 6ft long by 4ft wide. We already start to "potty train" by placing a fleece crate bed on one side of the whelping box and puppy pads on the other. They will begin to wake up and walk off their bed and potty on the pads. We want to reinforce clean behavior; you don't poop and pee where you sleep. As they get older, we move their potty area closer and closer to the door and eventually they will be pooping and peeing outside. During this transitional period, we're also starting to introduce toys, one new experience each day, & begin the weaning phase.

Three Weeks Old <3

We have officially approached week three! All of the puppies are growing and thriving. It's quite amazing to see how quickly these little puppies grow and develop at such an exponential rate. Just three weeks ago they were little jelly beans and now they're turning into baked potatoes HAHA. Their eyes are fully open, they're walking around, starting to initiate play between one another, still barking, howling, and growling. The fun is beginning and so is the never ending cycle of cleaning up potty pads. We start weaning pups at this age as they're putting a huge demand on mom for milk. The puppies will be started on a premade, nutrient dense and complete raw diet made up of - Beef, Chicken, Raw Goat Milk, Beef Bone, Beef Tripe, Beef Organs (Lung, Liver, Heart, Kidney, Spleen, Pancreas), Chicken Bone, Chicken Organs (Lung, Liver, Innards, Heart, Gizzard, Kidney, Spleen, Pancreas) .20% Goat Milk. I am not an advocate for feeding raw even though that sounds contradictory to my puppy raising practices. I have been doing this protocol for many years now and have found benefits of feeding raw over kibble up until 7 weeks of age. After 7 weeks we make the switch cold turkey and they do not have any issues making the transition. All of our adult dogs are on high quality kibble and do fantastic!

5 Weeks Old <3

These little squirts are so mobile now it's hard to get pictures of them being still. As soon as you're on their level, they're immediately in your face HAHA. They're eating multiple times a day, starting to explore various parts of their play yard, and have introduced them to going potty outside! Their little personalities are starting to develop and we're introducing some of our other adult dogs to start socializing them with other dogs safely. They have 2 speeds... Asleep or bouncing off the walls.

Happy New Year!!

Wow has time flown by extremely fast. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year's. With our holiday boarders it has been a whirlwind here at the kennel. We had so much fun yesterday getting their New Years photoshoot done and it was quite eventful getting them to stay seated and still for a picture. It is hard to see their collar color so I used colored bows to help identify each pup. They have made the transition to kibble and are eating out of slow feeder bowls as they have very high food drive. This helps keep them from potentially choking and it's also a great enrichment activity. I look forward to seeing everyone at puppy visitation this weekend!
